Specificity: This item detects an epitope within the N-terminal (NT) of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1 (ERK1). ERK1 is a 45kD protein involved in the initiation and regulation of meiosis, mitosis, and postmitotic functions in differentiated cells. ERK1 is a member of the MAP kinase (MAPK) family, and is activated by MAP/ERK kinase 1 (MEK1) and MEK2. ERK1 and ERK2, are emerging as important regulators of neuronal responses to both functional and pathologic stimuli.

A number of recent studies in models of cerebral ischemia, brain trauma and neurodegenerative diseases implicate a detrimental role for ERK1/2 signalling during oxidative neuronal injury.
