Specificity: This item recognizes human Activating Transcription factor 3 (ATF3), a 20.6 kDa member of the activation transcription factor (ATF)/cCAMP responsive element-binding (CREB) family of transcription factors.

Two isoforms of ATF3 have been identified. Isoform 1, the longer of the two, represses transcription from promoters with ATF binding elements by stabilizing the binding of inhibitory cofactors at the promoter. Isoform 2, which lacks the leucine zipper protein-dimerization motif, stimulates transcription, by sequestering inhibitory cofactors away from the promoters. It is possible that alternative splicing of the ATF3 gene may be physiologically important in the regulation of target genes.
