Specificity: This item recognises human interferon beta (IFN Beta), a 22kDa cytokine with wide-ranging antiviral, anti-microbial and anti-tumour effects. Interferons also serve to activate macrophages, natural killer cells and the presentation of antigens to the immune system by the major histocompatibility complex. The production of interferon is induced in response to microbes and other cytokines. The interferons are widely used to treat a variety of diseases and IFNB in particular is used to treat relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.
