Specificity: This item recognises Human op18, a 17.3kDa cytoplasmic protein belonging to the Strathmin family.

Studies indicate that op18 may function as an intracellular relay by integrating several signalling pathways such as those involved in cell proliferation and differentiation. In addition, op18 is involved in the regulation of the microtubule filament system by destabilizing microtubules where it prevents assembly, and promotes disassembly of microtubules.

Research also indicates that op18 is a potential target of the ASK1-p38 MAP kinase cascade suggesting that the ASK1-p38 cascade may regulate microtubule dynmamics through op18.

Op18, while ubiquitously expressed in normal tissues, is highly expressed in a variety of cancers including leukaemia, prostate cancer, ovarian carcinoma and breast carcinoma. It has therefore been hypothesized that op18 may be a potential target for anti-cancer therapeutics.
