Specificity: This item recognises human HP1Hsbeta (heterochromatin protein 1 homolog beta), a highly conserved nonhistone chromatin component and member of the HP1 family which are involved in heterochromatin formation, transcriptional activation and arrest, gene silencing and chromatin remodelling.
HP1Hsbeta is one of three mammalian HP1 homologues which localize to centromeric heterochromatin and are characterized by an amino-terminal chromodomain, hinge region and a carboxy-terminal chromoshadow domain. HP1Hsbeta is a component of both pericentric and telomeric heterochromatin and can directly associate with EMSY, TIF1 (transcriptional intermediary factor 1), LBR (lamin B receptor) and CHAF1A (chromatin assembly factor 1, subunit A) via the chromoshadow domain, and with tri-methylated histone H3 lysine 9 via the chromodomain.
