Specificity: This item detects an epitope within the C-terminal region of human cyclin dependent kinase 2 (Cdk2), a protein kinase which is essential for G1-S phase transition in the cell cycle. Cdk2 forms the catalytic subunit of the cyclin-dependent protein kinase complex, which also consists of a number of regulatory subunits, including cyclin A or cyclin E, and the Cdk inhibitors p21/WAF1 and p27/kip1. When activated, Cdk2 phosphorylates the retinoblastoma protein, leading to the activation of the transcription factor E2F and cell cycle progression.

Cdk2 can be upregulated in tumours, including adenomas and breast cancers, particularly in conjunction to cyclin overexpression.
